Scripture Union is a movement of volunteers from different churches who are committed to working with children, young people and families. Programs give participants positive experiences and help them learn and grow together. Within each of the programs people have the opportunity to hear about the Christian faith in a non pressured environment so they can make their own decisions in relation to faith and beliefs.
Scripture Union started in 1867 in Wales with Josiah Spiers and has spread to over 120 countries around the world. Each country operates independently, seeking ways to best work according to the local situation. There is an internationally agreed statement of aims, belief and working principles. These various countries seek to support and encourage each other through regional offices. In Australia, each state is a separate and autonomous body working co-operatively as Scripture Union in Australia.
Scripture Union Northern Territory has been operating since 1950. Primarily involved in ministry to children and young people, SU NT works in school ministry, camping, holiday clubs and sports programs such as KidsGames, training events for those in children’s ministry as well as partnering with the Bible Society to operate a Christian resource centre. From the beginning, Scripture Union has been strongly committed to empowering volunteers for Christian ministry.
Scripture Union is a not-for-profit organisation whose major source of income is from individuals and churches who see value in SU ministries.
