Our History

Scripture Union started in 1867 in Wales with Josiah Spiers (pictured right) and has spread to over 120 countries around the world. Each country operates independently, seeking ways to best work according to the local situation. More information can be found at SU International.

Even though we are working independently, there is an internationally agreed statement of aims, beliefs and working principles.

On 1 June 2021 Scripture Union movements in the Northern Territory, Queensland, Victoria, ACT, Tasmania, South Australia and Western Australia united to become SU Australia. In October Generate in NSW also joined the national movement.

SU Australia in Northern Territory has been operating since 1960. Primarily involved in ministry to children and young people, SU Australia works in NT schools ministry, camping, training events for those in children’s ministry and outreach and events such as Kids Games and our Indigenous workers in remote communities seeking to engage people with God’s word in their local language.

We are a member of the SU Australia family.
